Hildegard of Bingen to be named Doctor of the Church

The Catholic Church does something right for a change.

If you have any interest in mysticism, you should be familiar with Hildegard of Bingen. She was a remarkable woman. A nun, who ended up running her Abbey and was one of her era’s leading intellectuals.

She wrote music, invented her own language, wrote theological and botanical texts, and was a devout Catholic mystic. Truly an amazing woman.

I suggest reading the Wikipedia entry on her to get a feel.

I will say that I find her views on homosexuality to be bigoted and repulsive. But it was 900 years ago and she was a nun.
