The Half-Vegan Monks Who Are The World’s Healthiest People

Surprisingly, they’re Christian and not, say, something more popularly associated with vegetarianism such as Buddhism.

They are the Greek Orthodox monks of Mt. Athos.

This makes two populations of Christians that are among the world’s healthiest. The monks on Mt. Athos and the Seventh Day Adventists of Lomo Linda, California.

I wonder how much religion is responsible for the healthiest people in the world. And by religion, I mean, a religion-inspired diet. In these monks’ case, they fast half the year, are mostly vegan but then are sometimes allowed to be vegetarian (including dairy, fish,¬† and eggs).

There are several communities on Mt. Athos. It must truly be a remarkable place to live.
